Welcome to Jo's home studio. This workshop is suitable for anyone wanting to explore the process and principles of linocut.
Linocut is a versatile printmaking technique with endless possibilities for learning and development of creativity and outcomes.
Jo will encourage and guide you to work from your ideas and inspiration and experiment with different ways of printing so you achieve a lovely series of prints to take away with you.
You will be learning:
Tools and materials overview (lino blocks, cutters, inks, rollers, etc.).
Safety precautions and proper handling of tools.
Developing ideas and inspiration for printmaking.
Transferring designs onto the lino block (tracing, freehand drawing).
Basic carving techniques (gouges, scoops, textures).
Creating clean lines, curves, and shapes in the lino.
Mixing colour, exploring layers and colourways
Inking up the block, printing by hand and using a press. (a converted mangle)
Troubleshooting common printing issues (smudging, uneven pressure).
This is a small, friendly and relaxed class. Beginners and those new wishing to broaden their knowledge are welcome. No experience is necessary. All materials are provided.
